The focus of my work is figurative sculpture. I love the challenge of capturing some of the vitality and expression of the living form. The subjects for my work include the female form, dancers and children at play. I work my original sculptures in either wax or clay, from which they are then cast into bronze resin. The high content of bronze combined with the patination give a real contrast between the lighter higher areas and the darkness of the crevices which add a depth to the sculpture. Wax and clay each have their own texture and flexibility making them appropriate for different subjects and challenges. I love the feel of working the medium directly with my hands and it fascinates me to watch the form emerging as the early lumps of clay or wax are blended together, and how it comes to life as I further manipulate and smooth the surfaces. As for many sculptors there is also the fascination of the pure human form, without any flamenco dresses or sandcastles. The rounded curves of the human form are engaging in their own right and will always be part of my work.
